New World Records has released a new double album from Alvin Curran. It’s entitled Endangered Species and finds the composer re-imagining standards on his Yamaha Disklavier. You can listen to a clip from “(I'm) Confessin' (that I Love You)” above, a track that was originally composed by Doc Daughterty, A. J. Neiburg, and Ellis Reynolds. Of the Yamaha Disklavier, Curran has said that it is a “grand piano which allowed [him] the luxury of playing not just its own hammers and strings but [his] entire archive of sound-files: a magic act where the whole world becomes audible directly from [his] finger tips—an 80-proof blend of analogue and digital.”
You can find more information about the album at the New World Records website here. The album is currently available for purchase on the same page. There you can download the full liner notes for Endangered Species.
