Edition Wandelweiser Records Announces New Albums from Tom Johnson, Ferran Fages, Rutger Zuydervelt, More

Edition Wandelweiser Records has announced six new records that are set to be released on November 30th. The first record is a recording of a couple of John Cage’s Number Pieces from Guy Vandromme. The second is of Tom Johnson’s spaces . an hour for piano performed by Keiko Shichijo. The third album is from Ferran Fages and is entitled detuning series for guitar and is performed by Fages himself as well as Didier Aschour.

The fourth album is from Rutger Zuydervelt (aka Machinefabriek) and is entitled sileen II. The album features Zuydervelt and Gareth Davis. The fifth album comes from John McCowen and is entitled Mundanas i - v and features McCowen and Madison Greenstone both playing clarinet. The sixth album is a recording of Erik Satie’s Socrate by Olalla Alemán (soprano) and Guy Vandromme (piano).

Notice Recordings has released a new batch of cassettes. The first release comes from the esteemed New York-based cellist Okkyung Lee. Her new album is entitled Speckled Stones and Dissonant Green Dots. The first track is currently available for streaming and features a sprightly arrangement or computer-generated and analogue synthesizer. The B-side is said to “suggest early polyphony.” You can purchase the cassette on Bandcamp here.

The second new release from Notice Recordings is from percussionists Sarah Hennies and Greg Stuart. The B-side “Basin” is currently available for streaming and features a captivating assortment of found sounds that form a mysterious narrative-of-sorts. The third new release from Notice Recordings is from Matt Hannafin and finds him performing pieces from John Cage. It’s called Four Realizations for Solo Percussion and features compositions that Cage wrote during the last thirty years of his life. One piece, entitled “c Ȼomposed Improvisation,” was written for Glen Velez, a percussionist that Hannafin studied under. You can stream the A-side can be streamed above. Anothre Timbre Releases Three New Albums

Another Timbre has released its latest batch of albums. The first album is from a trio comprised of Cyril Bondi, Pierre-Yves Martel, and Christoph Schiller. Their album is entitled tse and was recorded at the INSUB. studio in Switzerland. The recording session marked the first time that the three musicians had played together. The second new album comes from Mark Knoop and Philip Thomas. The two play John Cage's Two2, a piece composed in 1989 for two pianos. The composition contains 36 sections which contain five measures each. Pianists are allowed to play a measure at their own tempo, but the two can not continue to the following measure until both have completed a measure. The album was recorded in 2017 in Huddersfield. The third album comes from Magnus Granberg and is entitled Es schwindelt mir, es brennt mein Eingeweide. The title translates literally to I’m struck by vertigo, my bowels are burning. Granberg's composition is performed by an ensemble that includes himself, Cyril Bondi, Anna-Kaisa Meklin, Anna Lindal, d'incise, and Christoph Schiller. The piece was recorded during a residency that the ensemble had in Geneva last fall. You can read an interview with Granberg here.
