Alec Livaditis Announces New Label, Inaugural Release Featuring Himself and Derek Baron

Alec Livaditis has started up a new cassette label called Silt Editions. The label's first release will be a split between himself and Derek Baron. Baron's A Side is entitled "Terms to be Avoided" while Livaditis's B Side is entitled "Come to". Both sides last approximately fifteen minutes. Livaditis notes that his track is a departure from his usual music, and is mostly comprised of collaged tape music, while Baron's side is reminiscent of Robert Ashley. The cassette will be released in June and is limited to 70 copies. Those who are interested in reserving a copy, or have any further inquiries, can email the label at silteditions@gmail.com.

Anothre Timbre Releases Three New Albums

Anothre Timbre Releases Three New Albums

Another Timbre has released its latest batch of albums. The first album is from a trio comprised of Cyril Bondi, Pierre-Yves Martel, and Christoph Schiller. Their album is entitled tse and was recorded at the INSUB. studio in Switzerland. The recording session marked the first time that the three musicians had played together. You can read an interview with Pierre-Yves Martel here.

The second new album comes from Mark Knoop and Philip Thomas. The two play John Cage's Two2, a piece composed in 1989 for two pianos. The composition contains 36 sections which contain five measures each. Pianists are allowed to play a measure at their own tempo, but the two can not continue to the following measure until both have completed a measure. The album was recorded in 2017 in Huddersfield. You can read an interview with Philip Thomas here.

The third album comes from Magnus Granberg and is entitled Es schwindelt mir, es brennt mein Eingeweide. The title translates literally to I’m struck by vertigo, my bowels are burning. Granberg's composition is performed by an ensemble that includes himself, Cyril Bondi, Anna-Kaisa Meklin, Anna Lindal, d'incise, and Christoph Schiller. The piece was recorded during a residency that the ensemble had in Geneva last fall. You can read an interview with Granberg here.

You can listen to excerpts from all three albums above. More information about the albums can be found on the respective album pages listed above. Another Timbre is currently running a special offer on these three albums. One can purchase all three CDs for £31 (saving you £6) up until May 31st. Information can be found on the Another Timbre home page.

RIP: Glenn Branca

RIP: Glenn Branca

Reg Bloor has confirmed on Facebook that Glenn Branca has passed away at the age of 69 from throat cancer. Glenn Branca studied theater at Emerson College during the early 70s and eventually founded an experimental theater group called Bastard Theatre with John Rehberger. Both Branca and Rehberger provided original compositions for the group's performances. He later moved to NYC and eventually started a group that would come to be known as Theoretical Girls.

Glenn Branca is best known for his work as a composer and guitarist. He was irrefutably important in shaping New York's no wave scene. Along with releases under his own name, Lesson No. 1 and The Ascension being his most popular, he started his own record label Neutral Records. The label would release albums from bands such as Sonic Youth, Y Pants, and Swans. He continued to compose symphonies throughout the following decades, his most recent being "Symphony No. 16 (Orgasm)". Listen to some of Branca's works below.
