Reading Group Announces New LPs from Marcin Barski and Derek Baron

Reading Group has announced two new LPs. The first comes from Marcin Barski and is entitled Wanda’s Dream. The album finds the Krakow-based artist compiling a collage of different tapes from the 1980s, a time when microphones were commonplace in homes and recording audio became more popular amongst the public. You can read a detailed introduction of the record from Barski here. You can also pre-order the album on the same page. Stream a track from the album above.

The second new album comes from Derek Baron. It’s entitled Recollects and is the artist's follow-up to 2016's Crooked Dances. The album recorded in 2016 in the Boundary Waters between northern Minnesota and southwest Ontario. It’s described as featuring a “repeatedly postponed canoe trip” and various cassettes from the ‘90s. You can stream the track above and pre-order the LP here.

Áine O'Dwyer Launches New Publishing Imprint Cloch and Releases New Book 'Poems for play'

Áine O'Dwyer Launches New Publishing Imprint Cloch and Releases New Book 'Poems for play'

Áine O'Dwyer has launched a new publishing imprint called Cloch. Its first release comes from herself and is entitled Poems for play. The announcement for the imprint and book is as follows:

I am thrilled to announce the launch of my new publishing imprint Cloch, and the release of my new book ‘Poems for play’.

“‘Poems for play’ collects thirty-six scores composed for the Jesuit Monastery and its surrounding environment, in the town of Ano Syros on the island of Syros, Greece. ‘Poems for play’ pays homage to the specificity of time and place, with a titular nod to the duality of meaning: 'to enjoy oneself by interacting with one's surroundings', vs ‘the realisation of creative form through the choreography of social poetics, and the mechanics of body/building as instrument.”

‘Poems for play’ is a FSC certified 46-page A5 publication, on perfect bound Indigo Arcoprint stock, in a signed/numbered edition of 100 copies. Each book is £15.00 (plus postage/packing). Please contact me for rates.

I will be traveling until Nov 10th but all enquiries/orders will be addressed on my return. Thanks for your patience!

As to how one can contact Áine about the book, one can presumably do so by messaging her Facebook artist page here.

Patrick Farmer Releases New Book 'Close Eclogues on Tiptoe'

Patrick Farmer Releases New Book 'Close Eclogues on Tiptoe'

Compost & Height is publishing a new book from Patrick Farmer. It's entitled Close Eclogues on Tiptoe and is described as an "epistolary experiment." The label described the book as such:

Close Eclogues on Tiptoe is an epistolary experiment that recalls the author’s visit to Mass an exhibition by the artist Lotti V Closs in 2016. Drawing on the ‘character’ inherent in Closs’s sculptural practice, Close Eclogues on Tiptoe uses the work as a structural device that brings together various literary, compositional, visual, scientific, and sonic references. Moving away from the literary form of the letter as a means of drawing the sender and recipient closer, the protagonists in Close Eclogues on Tiptoe experience a division or estrangement, a void that allows them to stand back from themselves and witness their own disappearance.

Throughout the book, Farmer’s long-standing research into listening is at the forefront of his writing. Following an accident in 2008 which caused long-term hearing loss, tinnitus, autophony and dehiscence, Farmer has been working across various disciplines to develop an embodied sense of listening. This has led to a greater understanding of the auditory processing system of the human body and an awareness of himself as a dis-placed body in the landscape. This dispersion has led to the realisation that there is no one way of listening that holds prevalence over another, a conception of listening interwoven throughout Close Eclogues on Tiptoe.

The book is limited to 100 copies. You can purchase a copy from the Compost & Height website here.
