Shelter Press has released a new album from Thomas Ankersmit. It's entitled Homage to Dick Raaijmakers and, as the title suggests, finds the Berlin-based musician paying homage to the Dutch artist Dick Raaijmakers. The album features a single 34-minute track that was inspired by Raaijmakers's music from the 60s and his texts on sound composition. The press release notes that the piece "uses tones produced by the listener’s own ears" wherein "the listener’s inner ears actively generate sounds that don’t exist in the recorded signal, and which can change with a small movement of the head." Tone List Releases New Album from Dan O'Connor & Sage Pbbbt
Australia-based label Tone List has released a new album from Dan O'Connor and Sage Pbbbt. It's entitled lines to and features eleven tracks that "explor[e] the textural varieties offered by their respective instruments". Entr'acte Releases New Asmus Tietchens Album STENOGRAMME, zweite Folge
Entr'acte has released a new album from Asmus Tietchens. It's entitled STENOGRAMME, zweite Folge and is simply described as being "28 ideas in 28 tracks." INSUB. is set to release a new album from a trio comprised of Carl Ludwig Hübsch, Pierre-Yves Martel, and Philip Zoubek. The album is entitled Otherwise and features a variety of instruments including the viola da gamba, piano, and tuba. It was recorded last November in Cologne at LOFT. René Aquarius Soundtracks Ajla R. Steinvåg's Sculptures on Transmutation, Stream Now
Moving Furniture Records has released a new album from René Aquarius. It's entitled Transmutation and is a soundtrack to a series of sculptures by Ajla R. Steinvåg. The two have histories in the medical field—Aquarius as a medical scientist and Steinvåg as a casualty special make-up artist and actor—and utilized this collaboration to explore "metal particle accumulation in the human body." The multimedia installation is currently on exhibit at the Temporary Art Centre in Eindhoven, The Netherlands from now until September 30th. More information can be found here. The three play alto sax, drums, and double bass respectively. The album is entitled Static Garbled Dreams and features five tracks that run for a total of 47 minutes. Jason Crumer's Ottoman Black Gets 10th Anniversary Cassette Reissue
No Rent Records boss Jason Crumer has reissued a tenth anniversary edition of his classic album Ottoman Black. The album was originally released on CD by Hospital Productions in 2018 and later on vinyl by Urashima in 2015. This new cassette comes with a six-panel J-card featuring extensive liner notes by Tom Grimley, Raymond Cummings and Christopher Sienko. These liner notes also appeared on the LP version of the album. Ryan Jencks also wrote liner notes for the LP version but they are excluded here due to space. Tanuki Records has released a new cassette that features two pieces from a trio comprised of Ilia Belorukov, Miguel A. Garcia, and Alfredo Costa Monteiro. This marks the first time that the trio has performed together despite working in pairs beforehand. The album is entitled Etwas and features two tracks that run approximately 22 minutes each. Mecanica to Release Nihon No Wave Compilation
Poland-based label Mecanica has announced a new compilation entitled Nihon No Wave. It features 19 tracks of Japanese new wave and post-punk culled from a variety of rare records. Adam Asnan Launches AA-REC Project Which Features Recordings of Live Performances
Adam Asnan has launched a new project entitled AA-REC. The website currently features more than a dozen recordings of live performances that have taken place throughout the past couple years. The project is "dedicated to recording performances of Electroacoustic, Improvised and New musics of particular merit" and is "motivated by the belief that a recording is not simply the representation of an occurrence, but is an artefact of context and quality, with it's own value."
Recordings include performances from Bryan Eubanks, Joseph Foster, and Michael Thieke; Chris Abrahams and Phil Durrant; and Mario De Vega and Daichi Yoshikawa. Each recording is available for download in both lossy and lossless formats. Recordings are to be added to the site periodically, including those featuring "special collaborations."
